You know, those V-22 Ospreys are behemoths! Up close they look like impregnable monstrosities. Very sturdy & solid. These new V-280 prototypes look very sleek, fast and more compact. But they also look very thin-skinned, like fiberglass (not carbon fiber). I hope they’ve designed some cabin protection for troops, pilot & nav. Check out the new prototype from Boeing / Lockheed Martin: the Team Defiant. Dual rotors with dual motors on top spinning in opposite directions. If one motor fails the other can power both rotors. There is a rear propeller for forward thrust that can fly as fast as most single propeller planes. I think it’s a superior design, kind of like a super-Blackhawk.
I would have thought of it with a double central fuselage and each engine of the two, with the double counter-rotating propeller, to increase the transported weight.
