Judy Obregon was on her way to her mother-in-law’s house when something on the side of the road caught her attention. At first, she thought the small animal lying motionless on the pavement was dead.
But as Judy was about to leave, the opossum suddenly lifted her head.
Judy took a closer look and realized the animal had not been hit by a car. Instead, she appeared to have suffered an injury from an air gun. Even more heartbreaking, Judy discovered that the opossum was pregnant.
The injured animal was struggling to lift her head and was unable to walk. Worried that she would not survive, Judy carefully moved her away from the road and covered her with a T-shirt to keep her warm while help could be arranged.
What happened next would make this rescue even more meaningful.
Despite her frightening condition, the mother-to-be still had a chance to protect the babies growing inside her. Thanks to the compassion of the people who stepped in to help, the vulnerable opossum and her unborn babies were given a chance to survive.
