Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior is considering buying a football club in Portugal’s second division, a source told ESPN.
The Brazilian player, who is currently in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to attend the Spanish Super Cup, is thinking of diversifying his business interests towards his future career plans after retirement.
News that The Best winner is considering buying a club in Portugal was first reported by radio station Cadena COPE.
Vinicius already has a series of personal sponsorship deals, as well as a contract with Nike until 2028. The Brazilian star and Nike recently reached a new agreement after a legal dispute, which he will become one of the most prominent faces of the North American company in football.
The 24-year-old striker is represented by Roc Nation and is regularly in contact with elite athletes from other sports, especially the NBA and NFL. In addition, the player born in 2000 also promotes the Vini Jr Institute charity fund in Brazil.
The Portuguese Second Division has 18 clubs, including the reserve teams of Benfica and Porto. A team currently competing in this tournament is Portimonense, which is also owned by a Brazilian, Rodiney Sampaio.
Vinicius is not the first footballer to want to buy a football club. Midfielder N’Golo Kanté currently owns Royal Excelsior Virton Club in the Belgian third division, and Vini’s Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappe became a major shareholder of Caen in the French second division last July.
