Reginald Smith, a 34-year-old man, cut off both ears of a pit bull named Miss Harper with scissors at her owner’s request. Afterward, he put a sock and rubber bands on her paws to keep her from scratching the wounds, but later, her owner had to take her back to Smith because the rubber band cut off circulation to one of her paws, causing it to develop gangrene. Smith decided to cut off her paw… What the hell were they thinking?
“He deserves to be in jail,” said prosecutor Gail Heatherly at the sentencing hearing. But instead, Judge Angelo Delligatti let Smith go with three years of probation, giving him “little credit” for not actually abusing the animal.
” Miraculously, Miss Harper recovered from her injuries over the course of a year. Thousands of families applied to adopt her, and she has now been rehomed.
At the time Miss Harper was placed at the shelter, her owners already had a history of animal abuse when they used bleach on a puppy to change its fur. They, too, face charges in Miss Harper’s case.
I hope everyone involved gets what they deserve and pays for what they did to Miss Harper…
