Sam Kennedy Drops Brutally Honest Response On Craig Breslow And Red Sox’s Embarrassing Season.vt

The Boston Red Sox are having a calamitous opening half to the 2026 campaign with their playoff hopes in complete disarray.

Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is under heavy fire from the fans for the abysmal performance of the team. The Red Sox faithful blame Breslow for failing to strengthen the team adequately after ending their playoff drought last year.

Sam Kennedy, the Boston Red Sox CEO, admitted the performance of the team this season is “embarrassing and unacceptable.”

Nevertheless, Craig Breslow is safe in his position at the head of the Red Sox front office. He feels Breslow is fully committed to turning the fortunes around for the club. The team ownership is not planning to remove him from the role.

“I think it’s important here at the outset to acknowledge how embarrassing, unacceptable, maddening, frustrating—whatever words you want to use—the past two and a half months have been,” Kennedy told WEEI’s ‘The Greg Hill Show.’ “There’s no way to sugarcoat it. It’s been awful, especially when you consider the stated goal of building upon what happened last season.”

“I fully understand the questions about Craig Breslow and his job security and all of that. But the issue of change there, just to be clear, is not on the table,” Kennedy added. “He is working as hard as anyone to get things back on track.”

Breslow took over his position in Boston at the start of the 2024 campaign. The Red Sox fired Alex Cora from the manager’s role in late April at his behest following a disastrous start to the 2026 season.

Red Sox Will Be Sellers If Team Doesn’t Improve, Says Sam Kennedy

Craig Breslow and the Boston Red Sox front office are still focusing intently on improving the team. However, Sam Kennedy acknowledged the Red Sox will be sellers at the trade deadline if the team fails to make any progress over the next few weeks.

“With the passage of time, you have to take an honest assessment and see where you are,” Kennedy said. “At the current moment, there are a lot of discussions going on in terms of improvement and how we get this thing back on track.

“But let’s be honest, unless things change dramatically, we may have to pivot here from what our initial planning was,” he added. “It wouldn’t be responsible to do otherwise. We’re here in mid-June, and we have to see what happens over the next couple weeks, and then we’ll reassess.”

The Red Sox are still languishing in last place in the American League East with a 27-39 record. They are currently 6.0 games behind the final wild card berth.
