Today, our rescue team had an emotional day as they dealt with a number of kangaroo incidents across Victoria. These heartbreaking stories remind us of the fragility of wildlife and the responsibility we have to protect them.
At Diggers Rest, we received a mother kangaroo that had been hit by a car. Despite being badly injured and exhausted, a miracle happened—a tiny joey had survived in her pouch. We immediately brought them both to our centre for care. Joey is now in a stable condition and receiving excellent care.
Not all stories have happy endings. In Sunbury and Clarkfield, two kangaroos unfortunately passed away after being left on the side of the road for days, their injuries too severe to save. In Lancefield, we found another kangaroo dead on arrival.
In addition, the rescue team has carried out a series of bag checks in areas such as Riddles Creek, Gisborne South, and Tullamarine. While no abandoned joeys have been found, these cases are a reminder of the risks that kangaroos and wildlife face every day.
Kangaroos are iconic to Australia, but human development is reducing their habitat and increasing their risk of harm. Our team of volunteers work tirelessly to rescue injured and orphaned kangaroos and other animals.
