Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has been ruled out of the club’s Copa del Rey quarterfinal match against Leganes on February 5 due to a calf hematoma.
However, the French forward is expected to make a swift return to action, with all signs pointing to his availability for the highly-anticipated Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid on February 8.
Mbappe suffered the injury after being on the receiving end of a rough tackle from Espanyol’s Carlos Romero, which only resulted in a yellow card.
Despite taking an extra day to recover, Mbappe was unable to shake off the injury and will miss the Leganes clash.
The 26-year-old has joined a growing list of Real Madrid players currently sidelined, including Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Eduardo Camavinga, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba.
However, unlike his teammates, Mbappe’s injury is not expected to be a long-term concern.
Mbappe is already back in training and is on track to lead Real Madrid’s attack against Atletico Madrid.
He missed the first meeting between the rivals in September due to injury but is set to make his mark in the upcoming derby.
Additionally, Mbappe is expected to be available for Real Madrid’s Champions League knockout phase tie against Manchester City.
