He was almost sacrificed, but one woman’s perseverance changed everything.

We know that homeless dogs have a very difficult life; in many countries, they lack medical care and no one cares for them. The average lifespan for these animals is 4 to 6 years, if they don’t die first from being run over, poisoned, etc.

Bruno is a dog who was rescued from the streets of Campeche, Mexico. Fernanda Herrera was the one who found him wandering aimlessly with a terrible wound on his face. She doesn’t belong to any rescue organization, but with her own resources and the help of her children, she has rescued several dogs that were in poor condition.

The first time she took Bruno to a vet, the doctor at the clinic told her there wasn’t much they could do for him. They recommended that it would be better to put Bruno to sleep because his recovery would be very slow and costly, and there was a chance he wouldn’t survive the treatment.

But Fernanda did not give up and continued seeking help from other veterinarians, until she finally found Dr. Esteban Eduardo Richaud , who gladly agreed to help Bruno.

Bruno had to undergo certain tests where they discovered that he had 3 tumors, 2 on his face and one on his genitals.

He now faces six to eight chemotherapy sessions, but what he needs most right now is love and support, something he never had before as a homeless person.

He’s a very calm dog and he immediately adapted to the help he’s receiving. He shows more energy every day; he wants to live, he wants a second chance.

The doctor has not yet been able to determine whether the position of the tumors will cause him to become blind in one eye; the chemotherapy has not yet completely eliminated the tumor, and he requires more treatment time.

Fernanda has created a Go Fund Me campaign to receive donations to help pay for Bruno’s medications, chemotherapy, blood tests, ultrasounds, and X-rays. There’s a long way to go, but for now, she’s in this alone, and her resources aren’t enough to support Bruno.

Bruno has been undergoing treatment for a month now. Fernanda has sometimes had to go out and ask neighbors and friends for money to pay his vet bills. But if Bruno shows so much energy and zest for life, she won’t leave him helpless.

He has also posted Bruno’s case on several Facebook groups, encouraging people to support him. Bruno welcomes and appreciates any donation.

There are cruel people who are capable of abandoning dogs to their fate, but it’s a relief to have people who save them and give them a new chance at life, to belong to a family that cares for them and truly loves them.
