What a terrible thing he must have gone through, such pain, agony, and despair! He couldn’t bark or move; he was gasping for air. All he could do was wait for death or a miracle.
The police arrived immediately and rescued him. The veterinarians who treated him reported that if he hadn’t been found at that moment, he wouldn’t have survived another couple of hours. The duct tape had caused severe swelling, which was slowly cutting off his airway. It was very difficult to remove the tape, which damaged his skin.
Finally, police officers arrested the person responsible for this unfortunate incident, a 32-year-old man, Michael Windsor Earl Hill, of Amherstburg, who remains in custody during the investigation and hearing process.
An Ontario court heard from Michael Hill, to which prosecutor Craig Houle told the court: “There is no other way to describe this act, it is a despicable act of depravity.”
Dean started an online petition calling for justice for Michael’s victim, and it garnered over 60,000 signatures. This outpouring of support from the public, who expressed their outrage, exerted enormous pressure to impose the largest sentence ever handed down in that county for animal cruelty cases, although for many of us it may seem like a small amount.
Although Justice has applications for adoption, he still needs medical treatment, so he will remain in the care of the Windsor-Essex Humane Society.
