The Los Angeles Lakers, while possessing the fourth-best record in the Western Conference, are far from perfect.
Although the franchise’s frontcourt unit is much improved with Deandre Ayton in the fold for the foreseeable future, it could use an additional boost going forward. In a blockbuster trade concept crafted by NBA expert Zach Lowe, the Lakers would elevate their big man unit by reuniting their 40-year-old star, LeBron James, with his 6-foot-10 NBA champion ex-teammate.
“The Lakers, I mean, that’s the funniest thing they could do is to bring Luka and AD (Anthony Davis) together,” Lowe said on the Zach Lowe podcast Wednesday.
Los Angeles was clearly fed up with Davis and his injury-prone ways last season, prompting it to trade the former No. 1 overall pick to the Mavericks in exchange for Doncic in February.
With Davis continuing to suffer from the injury while a member of the Mavericks, the Lakers would be correct in saying they made the right call.
That said, there’s no denying that Davis is a dynamic two-way low-post threat when healthy, as the Kentucky product averaged 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game with the Lakers before joining the Mavericks midway through the year.
Davis’ availability will always be a significant concern. Still, if the Lakers want to give the 32-year-old another opportunity to prove he can stay on the hardwood consistently, they may swing another blockbuster trade with the Mavericks.
