ARSENAL REOPEN NICO WILLIAMS TALKS—AND ANDREA BERTA MAY HAVE IDENTIFIED THE SIGNING THAT TRANSFORMS ARTETA’S ATTACK
Arsenal have reportedly made fresh contact over a potential move for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, placing one of Europe’s most explosive attackers firmly back on the club’s transfer radar.
According to the latest claim attributed to journalist Graeme Bailey, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has held discussions surrounding the Spain international as the Gunners assess whether a major deal can be completed.
Nothing has been officially agreed, and no transfer should be presented as complete. But renewed contact matters.
It suggests Arsenal are not merely admiring Williams from a distance. They are actively examining the conditions required to bring him to the Emirates—and this could become one of the defining transfer stories of the summer.
Arsenal Are Looking for More Than Squad Depth
This is not simply about adding another winger to Mikel Arteta’s rotation.

Williams signed a major extension with Athletic Club in July 2025, committing his future to the Basque side until 2035. Athletic also announced that his release clause had increased by more than 50 percent from its previous reported level of approximately €62 million.
That contract gives Athletic Club enormous negotiating strength.
Arsenal cannot approach this as an ordinary opportunity to acquire a player nearing the end of his deal. They would need to present a project—and potentially a financial package—powerful enough to convince both the player and his club that the time is right.
The Biggest Obstacle Is Not Arsenal’s Ambition
Arsenal’s interest should be taken seriously, but supporters must also understand the difficulty of the operation.

The Gunners can offer a team built to compete for the biggest trophies, a leading role in one of the world’s most watched leagues and the opportunity to form a devastating attacking partnership with players such as Saka and Martin Ødegaard.
But affection for his current club, a long-term contract and the cost of the deal make this far from straightforward.
What Williams Would Bring to the Emirates
From a football perspective, the move makes outstanding sense.
Williams would give Arsenal greater speed in transition and a more aggressive outlet when they regain possession. Instead of allowing opponents to reorganize, he can carry the ball thirty or forty yards and turn a defensive recovery into an immediate attack.
He would also increase competition.
