Having a pregnant dog at home can bring us a lot of joy, but also many surprises, which can leave us amazed, but also speechless.
Many people love large families, but giving birth isn’t easy. Nor is it easy for animal mothers. Fortunately, most canine births aren’t as dramatic as ours.
Your dog should be perfectly capable of handling the birth on her own, as long as the litter doesn’t exceed five or six puppies.
But think how exhausting it must have been for our little dog protagonist to bring 13 little furballs into the world.
Diva is the pregnant dog that caused a stir with her historic birth.
This is Diva , a 3-year-old American Staffordshire dog, who kept her owners on tenterhooks because of her gigantic belly.
The proud father of the children was a 13-year-old German Shepherd mix named Joey.

“ The two began their own love story in June 2013… And it ended in pregnancy ,” her human wrote in a post in which Diva is giving birth to her puppies.
At the time of the massive birth, the dog was placed on some towels and , panting exhausted, began her labor , accompanied by her human who did not leave her alone, neither in the sun nor in the shade at any time and always stayed by her side.
It threatened to be a complicated birth but she would have the unconditional support of her family in such a difficult time.
At first , with the arrival of her first baby , the mother felt scared and very vulnerable. Her nerves made her try to sit down during the procedure, but her human was there to calm her and prevent further complications.
“We helped her a little, and after the first puppy came out safely, Diva calmed down,” her caretaker said.
She immediately proved to be the best mother in the world to each of her little ones as they came into the world.
The man helped his pet by opening the puppies’ amniotic sacs, while Diva just watched her babies , who instinctively started drinking the milk .
The first puppy was born in several colors. The second was black. Each puppy was picked up by hand to prevent it from falling on the towels.
After the arduous and tiring labor of this brave canine mother, 12 miracles came into the world, since , unfortunately , one of them crossed the rainbow.

In the scenes, you can see the tender expression of the proud and happy mother, lovingly licking and pampering her beautiful new litter. A ” zorrific ” family, in every sense.
As is also the case for us, giving birth to a dog is laborious. But nature is wise, and this mother dog, despite the tremendous effort, knew what to do thanks to her instinct.
The new mother knew how to safeguard what she loved most by giving them all her love and protection.
Their owner announced that he would try to place all the children in responsible homes where they would not lack love.
And if they weren’t sure they would be welcomed into loving families, they would stay with them until their well-being and health could be guaranteed.
Shortly after that, they decided to spay Diva because they didn’t want to expose her to another similar birth. It was definitely the responsible thing to do, and we’re happy to know she continues to live protected and cared for with those she loves.
