He may be one of the most powerful animals in the forest, but Bobo the gorilla showed a surprisingly gentle side when he encountered one of the tiniest creatures in his enclosure.
Bobo is a 24-year-old Western lowland gorilla who was rescued by Ape Action Africa in 1996. Recently, the enormous primate formed an unexpected friendship with a tiny bush baby — and the unusual encounter left his keepers fascinated.
The bush baby appeared completely fearless around Bobo.
It moved freely across the gorilla’s body, hopping around the grassy area before repeatedly returning to its much larger companion.
Bobo’s group-mates soon noticed the unusual visitor and became curious. They reportedly appeared interested in getting closer to the tiny creature, but Bobo wasn’t willing to share.
Instead, the gentle giant kept his new friend close.
The unlikely pair spent at least two hours together, with the bush baby comfortably moving around Bobo and returning to him again and again.
Eventually, Bobo carried the encounter to a quiet ending, returning his tiny companion to a group of trees inside the enclosure. Moments later, the bush baby disappeared from sight.
For a creature weighing many times more than his tiny visitor, Bobo showed remarkable patience and curiosity.
The encounter offered a touching reminder that animal friendships can sometimes appear in the most unexpected places — and between the most unlikely companions.
