A sunrise photo shoot on a Florida beach suddenly turned into an unexpected rescue when photographer Suzanne Cosme spotted something unusual among the rocks.
It was a massive sea turtle, weighing around 300 pounds, trapped between large rocks on the shoreline.
Cosme had been taking photographs near the House of Refuge when she noticed the stranded turtle. She wasn’t sure how long the animal had been stuck or whether it was seriously injured. There was even some blood on its body, making the situation even more concerning.
Officials were contacted and arrived to assess the turtle’s condition. After carefully examining her, they determined that she was healthy enough to return to the ocean and did not need rehabilitation.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for.
Once the turtle was released onto the sandy beach, she slowly began making her way toward the waves. Step by step, she moved closer to the water until the ocean was finally within reach.
For Cosme, watching the enormous turtle return to the sea was an unforgettable sight.
She later said the turtle appeared to look back at her, almost as if she were saying thank you before continuing toward the water.
After being trapped between massive rocks, this 300-pound survivor finally had her freedom again.
And the moment she disappeared into the waves was the perfect ending to an unexpected morning rescue.
