Gus is a beautiful furry friend who stole the hearts of everyone who met him. Some thought he was a lost cause, but the rescuers at S.N.A.R.R Animal Rescue Northeast were determined to fight for him.
The furry friend was living on the streets and had developed a strange tumor near his eye. When they took him to the vet, they discovered that his health was much more alarming than they had suspected.
The tumor turned out to be cancerous and needed to be removed as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, Gus also had a condition known as heartworm.
He was so weak that it was highly unlikely he would survive surgery.
However, they decided to give him treatment and tried to restore as much strength as possible so that cute Gus would have a fighting chance for his life.
After a couple of months, he received surgery and the rescuers thought it was the right time to find him a home.
He was still suffering from a heartworm and it was highly unlikely that he would ever be cured completely, but he deserved to know the love of a family.
The brave little dog traveled from New York to Texas and within days everyone in his new home was already madly in love with him.
“He never showed the pain he had felt and was the perfect pet from day one,” said his owner.
When Gus arrived at his new home, he was no less than 12 years old and had a very poor prognosis.
For the next few months, he enjoyed the best naps on the couch and also in his humans’ beds.
He spent long hours accompanying the girls in the house and his favorite moment of the day was when someone hugged him.
They had never treated him well and he seemed to want to make the most of every gesture of affection that they gave him.
His health began to deteriorate rapidly. He was taken to several specialists but it was too late. Gus took his last breath curled up in a little bed surrounded by his adopted dog brothers and his beloved humans.
