In April of last year, a woman named Chrissy Beckles was taking a pleasant walk along a beach in Puerto Rico with her coworkers when suddenly something suspicious stopped them.
“It was a very sad scene. They were literally sitting on a pile of garbage, resting. There was no food, no water to drink, and it was an extremely hot day,” said Chrissy, who is president and founder of the Sato Project, an organization that rescues dogs from the streets of Puerto Rico.
The three puppies that were abandoned there appeared to be the same age, but one of them, called Maximus, was bigger than the others and did not seem to be a brother of that litter because he did not physically resemble any of them.
Worryingly, Maximus needed help urgently. Chrissy watched him move back and forth and noticed something was wrong with his back legs.
She and her team rushed Maximus and all the puppies to the vet. When they did the X-rays, they realized how serious the injuries were on the older brother.
No one knows exactly what happened to Maximus, but Chrissy suspects that he was hit by a car and his legs were directly affected. However, the vet was optimistic that his limbs could be saved. The rescue team agreed to put casts on his legs to allow the bones to heal, and they also gave him weekly check-ups. After five weeks, he was able to walk again.
Since leaving the veterinary clinic, Maximus has been living in a puppy orphanage, and will soon travel to the United States to meet the person who will be his family from now on.
This boy is very lucky to have found such good people, who were willing to help him above all else. Would you like to help this organization continue doing this with other abandoned dogs that need care? You can make your donation here.
