It doesn’t get any better than this.
Two absolutely massive animals going head-to-head in a river, hoping they are the dominant one to get the girl they’re chasing
Elk tend to duke it out during the rut every year for breeding rights. Going horn to horn to gather your harem of women… talk about a scary way to go about it.
I mean, bulls can weigh up to 1,000-pounds and they larger they are, the larger their antlers get. A big bull in the rut means a massive animal with multiple point daggers coming at the other one. Usually the elk battles end fairly quick and no one gets hurt, but it’s so amazing to see.
These two big boys go for a little talk as the walk alongside a river in Yellowstone National Park.
The end up in the water and challenge one another to a fight. The lock antlers and push as hard as they can towards each other. One comes out on top sending the other across the river away from the females.
As the females run towards the river another smasher of an elk comes into the scene. As the winner bugles his heart out for the ladies the new elk decides it wants no part and heads upstream away from him.
What a great video.
This is what it’s all about… nature being nature is pretty cool.
