Mbappe surprisingly purchased the French Ligue 2 club last year.
Stade Malherbe Caen fans are up in arms against their new club owner Kylian Mbappe following the sacking of manager Nicolas Seube.
Mbappe’s Ligue 2 club had lost four of their last five games leading up to Seube being fired. But some fans were of the opinion that the coach should’ve stayed on to turn things around.
Before kick-off of Caen’s last game against Clermont Foot, fans put up banners in protest against Mbappe’s decision.
One banner read: “Here, only work and loyalty make legends.”
“Before wanting to shine internationally, respect local figures,” another banner said.
A third had the inscription: “Mbappe, the SMC is not your toy”.
‘Not your toy’: Caen fans protest against club owner Kylian Mbappe for controversial sacking of manager
Mbappe bought Caen in July 2024 after investing €15 million in the venture through his company.
However, the club hasn’t been doing too well since. Caen currently sit 16th in Ligue 2 and are in serious danger of relegation.
Mbappe replaced Seube with new manager Bruno Baltazar.
