Hawass referred to the stone doors as the main discovery that’s left him with more questions than answers.

He told us: “I think, until now, the secret doors that I found inside the Great Pyramid are really a discovery that needs many questions and many answers.

“Inside the Great Pyramid, I found the so-called three doors.

The opening of one of the mysterious "Star shafts" in the north wall of the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Shafts of this nature have not been discovered in

“One on the south entrance of the second chamber that has two copper handles.

“Twenty-one centimeters behind that one we found a second one and in the northern tunnel, we found the third door with two copper handles.

“On December 5th I’m leading a team, to see, to discover, and to answer the questions about these doors.”

A few investigations surrounding the doors have already taken place but there has never been a conclusion drawn as to their purpose or what really lies behind them.

One investigation involved creating a small hole in the first southern door and sending a camera attached to a probe through it.

That’s how a second door was discovered behind it.

It’s thought there could even be a fourth door hiding behind the northern door, which would make the design symmetrical.

Hawass told The U.S. Sun: “It’s really one of the most amazing things that makes me ask many questions and wait for many answers.

He added that he hopes to “reveal the secret of the Great Pyramid for the first time.”

The expert clarified that no one knows where the doors lead but he is determined to reach a conclusion.

He said: “We’ll know. We’ll start December 5th.”

The Great Pyramid is also known as the Pyramid of Khufu and was built around 2570 BC as a final resting place for the pharaoh Khufu.

It’s known to contain three chambers including the so-called Queen’s chamber where the three mysterious doors are located in two shafts located opposite each other.

Hawass has previously written about the secret doors in an article for Guardian’s Egypt.

He wrote: “We are planning to clean the south shaft from outside to learn if it does open to the outside.

“If it does, then it is possible that it was a symbolic door for the king to use in crossing to the Netherworld.

Zahi Hawass said there were a series of doors that are difficult to access and no one knows essentially where they go.

“If it is sealed, we have to return to the Westcar Papyri and read how Khufu was looking for the documents of the god Thoth to help him with the design of his pyramid.

“Only further research into the shafts can reveal their function, solving one of the many mysteries of the Great Pyramid.”
