This happened early one morning in January 2019 at the Klassery Nature Reserve in South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
Safari guide François Pienaar was loading tourists into his car and taking them on game drives to see wildlife.
Then, they found sleeping lions. After watching for a while, the lions got up and rushed towards an elderly male giraffe who happened to be there.
And then, give me a piggyback ride! Carry it on your back! As if to say so, he jumped onto the giraffe’s back.
But it’s a wild world. The lions didn’t just innocently want the giraffe to carry them on their backs. The lions wanted breakfast and attacked the giraffe in an attempt to capture it.
After about 20 minutes of chasing, the six or so lions began their hunt and attacked the giraffe from behind in an attempt to push it down.
One of them jumped on my back! The lion and giraffe jump on each other, making it seem as if the giraffe is giving them a piggyback ride, but in reality, both the lion and the giraffe are desperately trying to do something about the other.
