Charlie, a two-year-old mestizo Pitbull, was found tied to a dumpster, alone and hungry. The two people who saw him luckily have a good heart and then took him to the Philadelphia vet. The doctors, when they examined him the first time, assured that they had never seen a case like theirs.

We raised his jaw to see him well and the inner part of his cheeks and lips was completely infested with larvae. He was in so much pain that he didn’t even want to move, said Adria Rebbecchi, the hospital’s communications director. That’s why her face was so swollen. Everyone was wondering what would have happened to him, how he got to be like this…

In light of the emergency Charlie was going through, vets put him on treatment immediately. One of those who brought him is our client for a long time and when he showed up with this guy we knew we had to help him immediately. “My father, the owner of the hospital, decided to cover all the medical expenses,” Adria continued.

Veterinarians gave him pain medication and planned surgery on his lips and mouth. Given that the infestation was so advanced, the tissue in her skin was badly damaged and could not recover, they had to remove it. Then there would be the stage of trying to make a weekly intervention for him to grow again.

The wound made eating a difficulty, but veterinarians fed him with small portions many times a day to make sure he regained his muscle mass. Gradually he began to regain strength and his sweet personality was flourishing as that happened.

One of her favourite people was Natalie Barber, a woman who works at City of Elderly Love (COEL), a shelter that specializes in adult pets. She visited Charlie frequently in hospital and was happy with the days. From the first time they were together their relationship became very special. Veterinarians were aware that the boy would soon need to go to a shelter and Natalie was the perfect candidate.

After three months of medical care, Charlie moved in with his foster family, Natalie’s, and is already making new friends.
The family has another dog and he really liked being accompanied. She is also very comfortable with her adoptive mom’s son, Lucas, Adria said.

In view of the vets finding Charlie’s microchip, the animal protection organization is doing the corresponding research to find out how it got to that dump. When the investigation process is completed, they will eventually be able to put it up for adoption to get a permanent home. However, it is enough to see it to understand that he is already very happy to be safe and enjoying surrounded by very kind people.
