Barilla, the dog found bone-deep, on the verge of starvation, is one of those cases that leaves no one indifferent.
There are hundreds of abandoned animals on the streets who lose their lives because they have nothing to eat. But this little dog had better luck.
She was rescued from the street after the police in Granada, Spain , received a call from a neighbor in a nearby town reporting that he had seen a dog in terrible condition.
Fortunately, there are generous souls who exhaust all available resources to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide homes for the most vulnerable and despised.
“He had marks on his paws, we believe he had been dragging himself along because he couldn’t walk properly due to his weakness and lack of muscle mass until he finally collapsed.”
“She was so hungry and thirsty when we found her. She couldn’t stand up or support her own body ; she couldn’t hold up her head or tail. Her health was so poor that she no longer had the strength to move; she had no muscle mass,” he said.
The team caring for her was worried; every second was a matter of life or death. They knew she could suffer organ failure at any moment; they didn’t give her much time, nor did they believe she could survive.
They thought he was a Belgian Shepherd mix. In his condition, he couldn’t receive any type of food; he had to be connected to feeding tubes and wait for his system to respond and begin to stabilize.
After six hours, he tried his best to get up and drink some water on his own. It was encouraging.
The vet said they were lucky to find her at that point, as she might not survive another night in her condition.
Within a few days, Barilla had overcome the risk of organ failure and starvation and was regaining her strength . She still had a long way to go, but she never gave up.
