Karaya, a western lowland gorilla, has given birth to her first child at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC.
This is the first time in nine years that a gorilla has given birth at the zoo. A video of that special moment was released on the official website.
I picked up my newborn baby and kissed him gently.
Her gestures of love and irresistibility stimulate my maternal instincts to the point that even though I have never given birth, I can’t help but wonder if my breasts will swell and produce milk.
Then, he kissed her repeatedly and laid her down on the straw with great care.
Karaya is 15 years old. He tied the knot with 26-year-old Baraka last summer.
“The birth of a western lowland gorilla is special and very meaningful, not just for our zoo family, but for this endangered species as a whole,” said primate specialist Meredith Bastian. is being sent.
“The goal of the primate team was to create the most favorable environment possible for Karaya, after all, as it was her first birth, and it required a lot of patience and dedication. I’m also very proud.”
Zookeeper Melba Brown assures her that Karaya will be a great mother.
“Having our baby brought a flood of emotions: joy, excitement, and relief. I’m also proud that the tenacity we showed to prepare Karaya for motherhood has paid off.”
