Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has criticised fans for offensive chants about his midfielder Phil Foden during the Manchester derby.
Guardiola substituted Foden in the 58th minute of the goalless match at Old Trafford on Sunday. Displeased with the game, the crowd at Old Trafford focused on insulting Foden, with chants like “Phil Foden, your mother is a wh*re” as he left the field.
Guardiola was deeply affected by this. “It shows a lack of class. But this is not ‘United,’ it’s people, you understand? We are so vulnerable. People who appear on the world football screens: coaches, owners, and especially players,” Guardiola said.
“Honestly, I don’t understand what’s in the minds of people involving Phil’s mother in this. It reflects a lack of upbringing, class, and they should be ashamed, but what can you do? This happens everywhere, not just in the UK,” Guardiola added, according to BBC.
