Speaking in his latest chat with the press, Spain head coach Luis De la Fuente played down Raul Asencio’s chances of breaking into the national team despite his fine performances for Real Madrid.

“Raul Asencio is a very good player. He is playing and having game time now, which is what we need,” De La Fuente said.

“He’s playing very well and had a very good game against City. It’s very difficult to get into the national team.

“There are very good players in all Spanish teams,” the coach adds.

This is a surprise coming from the same manager who gave debuts to Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi when they were 17 years old. Asencio turned 21 in February.
