A heartwarming rescue unfolded in New Rochelle this week when local firefighters saved a baby deer stuck in thick mud. The young fawn had wandered into a marshy area near a residential neighborhood and became trapped, unable to free itself from the sticky terrain.
Firefighters used ladders to climb into the mud in an unidentified lake. After an hour, they were able to safely remove the deer from the mud and reunite it with its presumed mother, who was watching from a distance.
Concerned residents spotted the distressed animal and quickly alerted authorities. The New Rochelle Fire Department responded promptly, arriving at the scene with a team prepared for a delicate rescue operation.
Equipped with ropes and harnesses, the firefighters worked carefully to avoid further distressing the fawn. Despite the challenging conditions, the crew managed to safely pull the baby deer from the mud.
Once freed, the little deer was checked for injuries and, fortunately, appeared to be unharmed. After a brief rest to regain its strength, it was released back into the nearby woods where it likely reunited with its family.
