Rodrygo has been scoring double figures for Madrid for the past three to four seasons. But it’s the same man who is often forced to play out of position to accommodate ‘the main star of the team’ Vinicius Junior.

However, there’s finally a ray of sunshine beaming towards Rodrygo. It all started in the second-leg playoff win against Man City.

Rodrygo urged to leave

After the game, Jude Bellingham made bold to say that Rodrygo is the most gifted player at Real Madrid.

Rodrygo has been asked to leave Real Madrid by Goal’s Tom Hindle.

“Rodrygo penned an extension in November 2023 that will keep him at the club until 2028. All La Liga contracts are required to include release clauses. Rodrygo’s – and this is not a typo – is €1 billion. The only way for Rodrygo to leave is to force a move, and he would likely have plenty of suitors,” Hindle says.

Vinicius Jr, Bellingham, Rodrygo: Real Madrid's front line is something special - The Athletic

“There is a prevailing sense here that he could walk into any top side in Europe – likely as a left winger. Barcelona, of course, are off limits, but Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal, in particular, could all do with help off the left. It is tough to imagine a situation in which Man City would say no, either.

“And perhaps it would be the best solution for him. Sure, Rodrygo has it pretty good at Madrid. He is paid handsomely, adored by his teammates, and will likely win at least one trophy per year for the rest of his career. There is nothing wrong with being a footballer who ends the season with 25 goal contributions and helps enough off the ball to bring real value to a side. But until he goes somewhere that will make the use of all of his talents, it might just feel like a career wasted.”
