The folks at The Pipsqueakery are used to caring for unique animals with quirky personalities — they rescue exotic pets, rodents and other wildlife daily. But one recent newcomer, a beaver named Agnes, is different than anyone they’ve ever met.
First, they gave Agnes a warm bath, during which they manually removed the vermin buried in her fur. While she still had a long road to recovery, Agnes felt immediately safe at The Pipsqueakery during her first bath.
“[A]s she fell asleep floating in the bath, I kept her head above water with my hand on her chest, and she breathed a huge sigh of relief,” The Pipsqueakery wrote on Facebook.
After bathing, Agnes received a light meal to satisfy her upset stomach. Her new caregivers later tucked her into bed for the night, and she slept soundly, knowing that she was finally receiving the love she desperately needed.
“I’m sure she was desperate for connection,” The Pipsqueakery wrote. “Beavers are monogamous and will mate for life. They’re not meant to be alone.”
While Agnes arrived at The Pipsqueakery alone, her new caregivers wanted to ensure she never felt lonely. They doted on her during every waking moment, from giving her daily medicated baths to sharing different fruits and vegetables with her as treats.
Agnes instantly cuddled her new plush dinosaur to sleep. When The Pipsqueakery posted a photo of Agnes snuggling the dinosaur on Facebook, their followers couldn’t help but to add more toys to her collection.
“I don’t know which of you went rogue and went off wishlist to get Agnes a beaver stuffy, but it’s perfect,” The Pipsqueakery wrote on Facebook.
Agnes soon became known as one of The Pipsqueakery’s most cuddly residents. She eventually received more plushies, including a capybara, and some comfortable blankets to snuggle with if ever her stuffed animals weren’t available.
In the month or so that Agnes has been at The Pipsqueakery, she’s received many generous donations from the rescue’s followers, and her condition has improved. Sadly, she’s since been deemed unreleasable, but she now has a bright future ahead as The Pipsqueakery’s resident cuddler.
And she’s sure to bring copious amounts of joy to the sanctuary for the rest of her life.
Only time will tell if Agnes will feel one hundred percent healthy again one day, but for now, her friends at The Pipsqueakery are just happy to have her as part of their family.
