Dok Geaw, a baby elephant, unfortunately lost his mother when he was only four months old. But, the good news is that he has now found a new loving family at Elephant Nature Park (ENP) in Thailand. His mother was a logging elephant who got injured during his birth and died later due to being pushed back to work. With no one to care for him, Dok Geaw became an orphan.
Gratefully, Khun Kanjana Silpa-Archa, an elephant rescuer from the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, came to Dok Geaw’s aid. At first, she introduced him to Sing Kon, a caring elephant who helped nurse him alongside his mother.
Sing Kon couldn’t take care of Dok Geaw anymore after she got pregnant. This left him alone without anyone to look after him. Khun Kanjana saw that Dok Geaw needed a family, and so she arranged to bring him to the Elephant Nature Park, where he would be safe and taken care of. When he arrived, the other elephants there were excited to meet him and welcomed him warmly into their herd. Lek Chailert, the founder of ENP, wrote on the park’s website: “Welcome Dok Geaw to our herd.”

Dok Geaw has comfortably adjusted to his new home at the Elephant Nature Park. He has been socializing with various elephant groups who have welcomed him with open arms. Recent snapshots capture him frolicking in a sand pit and playing with another young elephant. Unfortunately, Dok Geaw’s past situation with his mother is not uncommon in Thailand and other parts of the world. Countless elephants are mistreated and forced to endure harsh conditions in logging and tourism industries. Fortunately, Dok Geaw has found sanctuary at ENP, where he can revel in a joyful and secure existence.
