Mummy to the Rescue! Elephant Uses Trunk to Pull Her Calf to Safety After It Gets Stuck in a Watering Hole

This is the heartwarming moment an elephant reaches down with her trunk to pull her baby to safety after it became trapped in a watering hole.

The young elephant fell down a watering hole at the Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa and became stuck

The youngster's mother arrived at the scene and had to decided what would be the best way to free her baby

She explained: ‘Finally the mother paid more attention to the baby and tried to help it out.

‘But the mother was very inexperienced, and she led the baby into the corner of the watering hole, where the walls were quite steep.

In the end the elephant decided to reach down with her trunk to try and pull her calf to safety

But despite the best efforts of the mother she was unable to free the baby, and eventually park rangers had to come and help
