Owl chicks rescued from under Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage after Guns N’ Roses set given the best names
Two owl chicks found hiding under the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury have been rescued and named after the band.
The poor little guys were found chilling – or not – under the headliner stage after the Guns N’ Roses set on the Saturday night of the Worthy Farm festival.
Dubbed the ‘most unusual disturbance case’ of the year by the animal rescue team, the pair appeared to have been abandoned by their mother.
But don’t worry – they were rescued by RSPCA West Hatch Wildlife Centre in Taunton, and quickly made their way to Secret World Wildlife Rescue (SWWR).
The first chick, Axl – named after frontman Axl Rose – was found during the rock band’s set
The second – you guessed it, Slash – was reportedly discovered the next day underneath the stage.
Fundraising manager David Plant said the owls would have been ‘terrified’ after two days of thudding music.
‘When Guns N’ Roses were playing Welcome To The Jungle, I’m sure they didn’t realise how close they actually were to wildlife,’ he said.
Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis fuels Madonna rumours with massive hint
‘This is possibly the most unusual disturbance case we’ve heard about this year, but it just goes to show the importance of checking your surrounding for wildlife before any activity.
‘It looks like the parents sadly abandoned their nest once festival preparation began, so it’s difficult to say how long the chicks were left alone.
‘We’re so grateful to the people who found and helped them; they must have been terrified after enduring almost two full days of loud music.’
It isn’t clear what the affects of the noisy surroundings might have been on the sweet pair, but they are said to be in doing well following the rescue mission.
He then urged everyone to check for wildlife in standing structures and materials before renovating their gardens, or, you know, setting up for one of the world’s biggest music festivals.
Axl and Slash are reportedly ‘pleased’ to be reunited (the owls, not the rockers…).
