That’s a wild one.
Any time you have two predators going head-to-head you are in for a treat. Nature is wild and these two creatures are some of the wildest.
The Everglades, a vast wetland in southern Florida, is home to two of the world’s most formidable predators: the Burmese python and the American alligator. In this blog, we will explore the size and abilities of these creatures and their interactions in the Everglades ecosystem.
Burmese pythons have become an invasive species in Florida, where they are wreaking havoc on the ecosystem. These snakes can grow to be over 20 feet long and weigh up to 200 pounds, making them one of the largest snakes in the world.
Burmese pythons are constrictors
, meaning they squeeze their prey until it dies from suffocation. They are opportunistic feeders and will eat almost anything that comes their way, including small mammals, birds and reptiles. They have also been known to take down larger prey, including deer and alligators.
American alligators are native to the southeastern United States and are found in many areas of Florida, including the Everglades. These reptiles are known for their powerful bite force, which can be over 2,000 pounds of pressure per square inch. They can grow to be up to 14 feet long and weigh over 1,000 pounds.
Alligators are apex predators in the Everglades, meaning they are at the top of the food chain. They feed on a variety of prey, including fish, turtles, birds and mammals. They have even been seen eating smaller gators.
The Everglades ecosystem has been absolutely messed from Burmese pythons, which have no natural predators in the area. These snakes have been known to eat a variety of prey, including birds, small mammals and even alligators. The number of animals in the area has decreased significantly.
This video shows a wild encounter between these two predators.
A python is seen coming up to a gator… both are large animals.
The snake squares up and takes a pounce to bite the gator. The gator starts to fight back and bites down on the python as it wraps around the gator.
The each let go from the stand still but neither are done. The python comes around and doesn’t shy away from more fight. The gator has had enough and decides to take off.
