Manchester City fans will be able to further visualise what the Etihad Stadium will look like next season after the addition of new roof trusses on their North Stand expansion.

City hope to open the 6,000-seat expansion at the Etihad in January 2026, starting with test events, before the wider hotel, fan zone and museum open later in the year.

The towering third tier has been built out of the back of the current two-tier stand, plus the two spires in recent weeks that will hold up the roof and sky walk attraction. Now, a video of the site has shown how the first roof trusses have been installed ahead of Saturday’s Premier League visit of Brighton.

YouTube channels SS Skies and CP Overview have been documenting the building of the stand, with the first roof beams going up on Wednesday this week. Workers could be seen installing the beams connecting the first two trusses for support.

The roof of the third tier appears to be installed over the existing roof, with temporary supports holding the new structure up. The existing roof will then be removed, and the new, higher roof connected to the West and East Stands.

City recently published new imagery to show what the North Stand expansion will look like.

The videos also show cladding being added to the hotel behind the stand, following news that City have partnered with Radisson Hotel Group to unveil The Medlock hotel that will become a central part of the development.

City’s progress follows this week’s announcement this week that Manchester United plan to build a new 100,000-seater stadium next to Old Trafford. City’s expansion at the Etihad will take capacity to over 60,000 and will cost around £300m.

Fresh images of City’s North Stand expansion were released last week, along with new details of the hotel that forms a key part of the £300m development.

City’s investment in the stadium will also tap into the music fans attending the neighbouring Co-op Live arena as part of their aims to make the Etihad Campus a year-round destination as well as just on matchdays.

The Etihad's maximum capacity will be increased to around 61,000

The new stand will also include rail seating, hospitality seating, a food hall, tickets ringfenced for younger fans, breakout spaces, religious rooms and alcohol-free areas.

Fans have raised concerns over the make-up of tickets available in the new stand as wider issues around season tickets continue to accompany the roll-out of the development. No ticketing information has yet been released, although at least 800 seats will be for hospitality guests.
