Man City is in need of reinforcement as they try to overcome an unprecedented series of poor performances under Pep Guardiola. And the Spanish coach has a list of 5 goals in January.
Pep wants to get new players to hopefully change Man City’s situation
Guardiola is going through an unprecedented series of bad performances at Man City , having only won one win in the last 13 matches. The Premier League champion has dropped to 7th place on the rankings, 14 points behind top team Liverpool.
Guardiola is keen to see new players arrive once the New Year begins. The Citizens have seen a number of injuries in the defense while Rodri will be out for the rest of the season.
“If possible, we definitely have to add players,” he told Amazon Prime Video before being asked about which positions need strengthening. “We had special difficulties in defense, in the middle of the field.”
“I don’t know if that will happen. But I think we will have to find a way to bring in new players. Of course, the winter transfer period is not easy,” he added.
Targets in Man City’s sights (from left): Musiala, Wirtz, Bruno Guimaraes, Zubimendi and Guehi
According to The Times, Martin Zubimendi, Bruno Guimaraes, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Marc Guehi are Man City’s 5 goals in January. Zubimendi and Guimaraes will provide The Cityzens with greater support in the center of midfield to compensate for Rodri’s absence.
Man City has been in contact with both players before. Guimaraes’ price will not be cheap because he is a mainstay of Newcastle. Meanwhile, Zubimendi refused to move to Liverpool in the summer to stay at Real Sociedad.
Guehi was asked by Newcastle to buy him for 70 million pounds last summer but was not accepted by Crystal Palace. “The Eagle” is determined not to lower the price after Guehi’s impressive summer with the England team at EURO 2024.
Bundesliga stars such as Musiala and Wirtz provide more attacking options, and both German internationals are only 21 years old. Both will not be cheap and it is very difficult for Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen to “release people”.
