In the face of the boundless cruelty of people with a stone for a soul, angels always appear on the other side of the story to put it all right.
It was Halloween night when staff at Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary in Merseyside made a heartbreaking discovery.
Security cameras revealed the moment the sanctuary volunteers encountered the depressing scene, which they described on their official website:
“Emaciated, battle-wounded, with bleeding ulcers, overgrown and ingrown toenails, a worrying bump,” was how Casper was found, nearly dying of starvation due to severe malnutrition.
They couldn’t waste a second and put the little one in the hands of the veterinarians, but what they discovered paralyzed his heart:
“And as these striking photographs show, Casper’s bones can clearly be seen protruding beneath his skin. He had no fat or muscle at all—just skin and bones,” they wrote on the sanctuary’s website.
“It gave us a little bit of a scare on Halloween, it looked like a real-life skeleton had come to the door.”
The rescuers saw on camera that some men got out of a car and left the dog in front of the closed door. Clearly, their intention was to leave him there to die, as no one would have noticed his presence until the next morning, but fortunately, their time had not come.
From the very beginning, Casper received all the care he needed from the veterinary team, and the shelter kept an eye on his progress. Thousands of people were moved by his story and remained attentive to his progress.
“This is probably his first decent meal in a long time. This picture doesn’t really show how emaciated he actually is,” they wrote.
Little by little, the little one took giant steps forward. It seemed incredible that Casper had practically been brought back from the afterlife, and his transformation was the work of so many people’s love . “He’s doing great. He gets excited when he sees people and loves hugs. It’s wonderful to see his wagging tail and his bright personality ,” said his heroic rescuers.
The best part was yet to come, as Casper needed another place to fully recover, so another sanctuary in Cornwall called the Last Chance Hotel would take in the little one.
They have a farm with more than 10 hectares of land, it’s next to the beach and they have the perfect space for Casper and all the love in the world awaits him for his full recovery.
