Striker Kylian Mbappe and PSG are experiencing tension over unpaid wages during his time with this club.
The French star left PSG on a free basis to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2024. However, up to now, the connection between Mbappe and PSG has not completely ended.
The 26-year-old striker continues to demand the salary he thinks he deserves from PSG. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 representative did not admit that responsibility, based on a verbal agreement stating that Mbappe would not leave on a free transfer.
Both Ligue 1 and the disciplinary body of the French Football Federation (LFP) ruled in favor of Mbappe, confirming that he received 55.4 million euros from PSG for salaries in April, May and June. However, the LFP No penalties were imposed on the club, and PSG continued to refuse to pay.
According to L’Equipe, PSG is forced to submit a financial report to UEFA on January 15. One of UEFA’s regulations is that clubs cannot owe salaries to staff or players, including Mbappe. This could lead to UEFA being able to punish PSG, with forms ranging from shortening the squad, fines, to bans from participating in tournaments.
However, the possibility of UEFA banning PSG from participating in the Champions League because of this issue is considered very low, especially when the case has not been legally resolved. Mbappe is not short of money and can wait patiently to receive the salary that PSG owes him. Meanwhile, PSG will take advantage of this time to improve its financial situation, after large expenditures without much return from the departure of Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi.
