Every dog deserves a dignified life, especially when facing difficult times, like suffering from a tumor. Not all furry friends are fortunate enough to grow up in a loving home, but even behind the greatest storm lies a beautiful rainbow of hope.
Gus was a beautiful little dog who lived for a long time on the cold, stormy streets of Texas, USA. Until he was rescued by the animal welfare organization SNARR Animal Rescue Northeast , located in New York.
Gus’s case wasn’t like that of the other dogs the association’s volunteers had previously taken in. The streets took their toll on his health, causing him to develop a cancerous tumor near one of his eyes .
The caretakers at the facility devoted themselves to showering the furry friend with pampering and attention . He had to undergo radiation therapy and also suffered from heartworm disease.
Despite his many ailments, Gus’s pure heart remained intact . He was the friendliest and warmest dog in the entire association; it was simply impossible not to fall in love with him, and because of that, his cause touched the hearts of thousands of people.
“Funds needed! I don’t know how anyone can see a dog in this condition and do nothing. Gus will need to see our specialists for surgery and will require extensive medical care. Please help us help Gus,” the association pleaded with internet users on social media.
Thousands of people supported Gus , both financially and emotionally. It was risky to inject anesthesia into his system, but the members of the association decided to do everything they could to try to give him a better quality of life.
After successfully completing his surgery, the furry friend had to continue receiving chemotherapy and also deal with his heart condition. But even so, he was ready to be permanently welcomed into a loving home.
Gus was put up for adoption , and his forever family showered him with tons of cuddles. He became the baby of the house, where he loved binge-watching television; being with him was like having a perfectly well-behaved and loving gentleman.
This little dog’s dark past was behind him . Now, instead of the cold night air, he could sleep in a plush bed, and he never went hungry again, because he could enjoy all the hot hamburgers he wanted.
He had everything and became his family’s entire world . As if that weren’t enough, even after his adoption, he continued to receive support from the association’s specialists, including his own home health nurse who made sure to tuck him in tightly in bed every night.
They say the best part of life is short, and that’s what happened to Gus. Just a few months after being adopted, he passed away at the age of 12 , leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to hear his inspiring story of struggle.
“I will miss tucking you into bed every night with your blue blanket. I wish we had more time together, your health deteriorated so quickly. But if I learned anything from you, it was how to act selflessly, so I was able to listen when you told me it was your time to go. I hope you’re having a nap in the sun now, dear Gus,” wrote the furry friend’s nurse.
There is no doubt that the only truly valuable and important thing in life is to spread love through actions that end the sadness of the most innocent, those who have the biggest hearts and only want to be loved in return.
