An elephant in South Africa sat down on the concrete of a pumping well to scratch an itch, making tourists laugh with delight.
Photographer Dereck Hindry and his wife Jennifer Hindry visit Kruger National Park, South Africa. While the two guests stopped and watched the wildlife, an elephant in the herd approached the well and put one foot on the concrete cover. Then it sat down and moved its butt from side to side for half a minute.
At first Hindry thought the elephant had come in search of water. But he quickly realized that it put its feet on the concrete cover to “check” the safety before scratching the itch. This discovery surprised Hindry and his wife.
They laughed and struggled to keep the camera from shaking. He thinks it’s a natural thing in life, anyone has an itch and the humor is not without coming from wild animals. But even so, witnessing this scene made the two tourists have happy moments.
