“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” — that’s the motto these kindhearted rescuers had when saving this whale!
The dwarf minke whale found itself washed up on Hervey Bay beach in Australia when visitors took notice. In danger of overheating from becoming too dry, rescuers began to regularly pour water over the whale until the tide returned. When that happened, they were able to guide the creature back into the water.
As soon as the whale disappeared into the sea, the crowd that had formed began to cheer! But their excitement quickly subsided when, just moments later… the whale got stuck in the shallows again.
“Oh no, it’s coming back in,” one man can be heard saying in a video capturing the moment.
Without hesitation, the rescuers were back in action, more determined than ever to get this whale back home. Because stranded marine animals often get disoriented, they were especially careful to guide it back into the depths as much as they could to ensure he wouldn’t accidentally make its way back to the shore again.
These beachgoers were excited when they thought they had freed this sweet whale, but they were absolutely over-the-moon when it was a success!
“[It was] a heartwarming moment of community spirit and animal rescue,” Drew Godfrey, local snake catcher who captured the moment on camera said. “It was wonderful to see.”
