Giant, monolithic gold nuggets have been discovered by humans (part 2)

The record that has not been broken so far is still held by the Holtermann gold block with a weight of 290 kg, found in the state of New South Wales, Australia.

Following part 1, interesting discoveries about monolithic gold nuggets with large sizes have been discovered by mankind, according to Lovemoney’s data.

Gold Heron 31.4 kg

Named after a commissioner in charge of gold mining, the Heron nugget was found near Old Golden Point in Fryer’s Creek at the Mount Alexander Gold Mine (pictured) in March 1855 during the Victorian gold rush. .

The block of gold weighing about 1,106 ounces (31.4 kg) was sold in the UK shortly after it was found.

Vicount Canterbury Gold Bureau 31.6 kg

Like the Viscountness Canterbury mentioned, a similar gold nugget is the Viscount Canterbury found at John’s Paddock, in Rheola, which is rich in gold reserves in Victoria.

The 1,114 ounces (31.6 kg) block of gold was discovered a few months before the discovery of Viscountess Canterbury in May 1870.

Sarah Sands Gold 31.7 kg

Named after a famous ship, Sarah Sands is another famous discovery found at Canadian Gully, Ballarat during the Victorian Gold Rush.

It was found by a French sailor in January 1853.

The Canaa 4 gold nugget weighs 33.6kg

The fourth largest gold nugget of the same name, discovered during the infamous gold rush in Serra Pelada, Brazil in the early 1980s, the Canaa nugget weighs 1,185 ounces (33.6 kg) and is valued at $1.4 million.

Like other large gold nuggets found during the gold rush, Canaa 4 is currently housed in the Banco Central Museum in Brasilia.

Canadian Gold 2 weighs 34.7 kg

Canadian 2, weighing 1,224 ounces (34.7 kg), was found at Canadian Gully (photographed in 1850), Ballarat in January 1863. Along with Canadian 3, it was valued at about $1.2 million.

Great Triangle Gold 36.2 kg

The Great Triangle is the largest gold nugget discovered in Russia. Explorer Nikofor Syutkin mined this nugget at Miass in the Ural Mountains around 1842, weighing 1,277 ounces (36.2 kg). It is currently on display at the Kremlin Armory, Moscow.

The Canaa gold nugget weighs 40.5 kg

The second largest gold nugget of the same name, weighing 1,430 ounces (40.5 kg), was found during a gold rush in Brazil’s Serra Pelada in the early 1980s.

Like other large gold nuggets discovered, Canaa 2 is now on display at the Banco Central Museum in Brasilia.

Lady Hotham gold nugget 44.7 kg

Named after the wife of Victorian Governor Charles Hotham, Lady Hotham was found by a group of nine miners in Canadian Gully, Ballarat in September 1854 during the Victorian gold rush.

This gold block weighs 1,576 ounces (44.7 kg) and is worth the equivalent of $ 1.8 million in today’s prices.

Monumental gold nugget 48.1 kg

This is the largest gold nugget discovered in the US and is named Monumental. Weighing in at 1,696 ounces (48.1 kg), Monumental was discovered by five explorers in August 1869 at the Monumental Claim in Sierra County, California.

Not long after, this gold was sold to Robert B. Woodward – a wealthy hotelier in San Francisco.

Precious gold nugget 48.7 kg

Like Kum Tow, Precious gold was found at Catto’s Paddock, Berlin (now Rheola), Victoria, Australia and was discovered by a Chinese explorer.

Blanche Barkly Gold Cube 49.4 kg

In August 1857, a Scottish expedition led by Charles Napier discovered the Blanche Barkly gold block at Kingowner, Victoria. This gold nugget, honorably named after the daughter of the colonial governor, was moved to London and displayed at the Crystal Palace.

Blanche Barkly was later sold to the Bank of England for £12,000, or $1.7 million (£1.3 million) today. It was also minted into 1000 sovereels (formerly British gold coins).

Leg of Mutton/ Canadian 60.8 kg

The largest single piece of gold discovered at the Canadian Gully, Ballarat was during the Victorian Gold Rush.

Leg of Mutton, also known as Canadian, was found on the first day of 1853 at a depth of 18.3 m underground.

Weighing in at 2,144 ounces (60.8 kg), it went on sale to the public later.

Canaa Gold 1 weighs 60.8 kg

As the largest extant gold nugget on Earth, Canaa is the largest gold mined during Brazil’s Serra Pelada gold rush of the early 1980s.

Valued at $2.6 million, it is now on public display along with small gold blocks of the same name and differently numbered at the Banco Central Museum in Brasilia.

RNC Minerals 2 gold nugget weighs 63 kg

Not pure gold because the interior has been doped, this huge gold-encrusted rock was discovered in September 2018 at the RNC Beta Hunt mines near Kambalda, Eastern Australia.

Valued at $2 million, this impressive slab is said to contain around 1600 ounces (45.6 kg) of pure gold.

Welcome Gold Department 69 kg

The largest gold nugget discovered in the Ballarat gold mine, Australia, the Welcome block was excavated by a group of miners from Cornwall, England in June 1858.

It sold for $1.7 million. Like Blanche Barkly, this huge gold block is on display at Crystal Palace, London. In the end, however, it was sold by the Royal Mint and melted down to be minted into thousands of soverenes.

RNC Minerals Gold Block 95 kg

Workers at the RNC mines unearthed a gold-encrusted rock that is even larger than the one at the Beta Hunt mine in Western Australia found in September 2018.

This gold nugget weighs about 3,327 ounces (95 kg), contains about 2,400 ounces (68 kg) of pure gold worth $3 million.

Welcome Stranger Gold Bureau 99.9 kg

The splendid Welcome Stranger, the oldest of all the blocks of pure gold, was found by British explorers John Deason and Richard Oates in February 1869 at Moliagul in Victoria, Australia.

Weighing in at about 3,524 ounces (99.9 kg), this huge gold nugget was broken into three pieces and then melted down.

Holtermann gold nugget 290 kg

The largest mass of gold found on this planet is Holtermann. Unearthed by German explorer Bernhardt Holtermann in October 1872 at Hill End, New South Wales, Australia.

This gold and quartz block weighs 10,299 ounces (290 kg).
