Echoes of Distress: Boaters Scour the Waters for Hours, Driven by the Desperate Cries of a Stranded Baby Raccoon

So it’s doubly touching to see humans reaching out to save a stranded raccoon in a time of need.

Recently surfaced video shows a boat crew in Maryland rescuing a raccoon from the water on July 4, 2016

At the beginning of the clip, the tiny raccoon is seen swimming over to the boat for help

The boaters then throw down a bright orange life vest for the raccoon to jump onto for safety

‘One of our crew aboard our boat heard a yelping sound and at first it sounded like birds overhead.

The raccoon then latches on to the inflatable and rests after a strenuous struggle swimming in the water

The clips ends with the raccoon being towed to safety by another boat, still clinging to the boater’s life vest

‘One of our crew aboard our boat heard a yelping sound and at first it sounded like birds overhead. Several hours later we finally found the source of the cry – a young raccoon treading water on the side of the boat,’ the boaters wrote on YouTube

‘Not wanting to pick it up out of the water, we threw it a life preserver to climb upon and then towed it to land,’ the YouTube post reads
