Coby was so scared at the shelter because his family abandoned him for “eating garbage.”

Nothing can be as appealing to a dog as an open trash can. But sadly, 2-year-old Coby’s owners were tired of constantly searching for the trash their dog scattered and decided to put an end to the unwanted behavior in the most courteous way.

As expected, Coby was deeply saddened; he simply didn’t understand what he was doing within those four walls. Long gone were the days when he’d been happy rummaging through the trash…

But Samira El-Hage wasn’t the only one moved by Coby’s situation. After his story went viral, Leigh Maddox, founder of Compassion For Cats of Delaware , was heartbroken and made every arrangement to find the little guy a foster home. It was urgent that he feel true love.

But for Fritz, nothing would be an obstacle as long as Coby felt loved, and unlike Coby’s heartless former owners, she knew how to find other creative solutions to keep the trash in its place.

Now, after almost a month in his foster home, Coby is slowly adjusting to his new life. He’s still too scared to go out on his own and has to be carried in and out of the house.

“I thought if I hugged him and kissed him, he’d know he was loved… but it’s so much more than that,” Fritz said. “I hope the damage he suffered can be overcome, but it won’t happen overnight.”
