In the match Real Madrid crushed Mallorca 3-0 in the semi-finals of the 2024/25 Spanish Super Cup, two defenders Raul Asencio and Pablo Maffeo attracted attention with a heated argument on the field.
Witnessing Asencio’s unrestrained actions, former Mallorca midfielder Dani Rodriguez advised Real’s young talent to learn a lesson.
Asencio was recently introduced to the first team by coach Carlo Ancelotti. In the recent match between the Spanish Royal team and Mallorca, he sat on the bench before being put on the field in the 55th minute to replace Tchouameni. This is a reluctant personnel adjustment by coach Ancelotti, because Tchouameni suffered a head injury and was unable to continue playing.
During the time he was used, Asencio did a good job helping Real not concede any goals. However, he made a bad impression because he argued with Maffeo in front of the audience.
The pair collided just seconds before the match ended. When the referee blew the final whistle, the two once again walked towards each other. If their teammates hadn’t stopped them, Asencio and Maffeo might have talked to each other with their fists.
According to Spanish media, Asencio apparently challenged Maffeo to meet him after the match. Commenting on the incident, Dani Rodriguez gave his opinion: “Asencio is a young player and still has many important matches ahead. I advise him to learn how to help the home team win, instead of trying to win. Losing enough to the opponent in such a way. Wasting time and energy on arguing with the opponent is not something he should do.
