The love for our pets is so great that we want them to live forever; they are part of the family and as such we love and cherish them.
This is what rescuers from Dogs 4 Rescue are doing for Zach, a 16-year-old Staffordshire Terrier, after noticing that his Alzheimer’s and spondylosis , a disease that affects his spine, had worsened.
Zach arrived at Dogs 4 Rescue in Eccles, Greater Manchester, in October 2018 after founder Emma Billington, 41, rescued him just the day before he was due to be put down.
The staff created a wish list to please the furry old man and give him the best memories.
” We don’t know exactly how much time he has left , but we can see that he’s slowing down and getting tired. The bucket list is a way to prepare for his passing, and we wanted to include all the things he loves,” Emma said.
Zach is one of 45 dogs living at the shelter in an open, kennel-free environment.
Due to his ailments it was very difficult to relocate him.
“He looks out the window and gets really excited,” Emma added.
Zach has canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome , which is similar to Alzheimer’s disease in dogs.
“Grandpa Zach is popular with all the other furry friends at the shelter,” Emma said.
His mind goes blank , he forgets where the bathroom is, he paces back and forth in the kitchen , as if he’s forgotten what he’s doing, then curls up with another puppy to sleep.
” He’s very comfortable cuddling, and his favorite friend is a big Kangal dog, Blind Jessie . They’re funny and sweet. Zach has had an amazing life here, and we love caring for him,” Emma said.
One of Grandpa Zach’s favorite things to do is eat double cheeseburgers and steak for dinner.
Starbucks’ special dog drink is another must-have on your wish list.
“As soon as we put a cheeseburger in front of him, he bursts into joy,” Emma said.
She loves to go out and explore all the new places that are on her bucket list.
Also enjoy a paddleboarding trip to the beach, eating fish, chips, and delicious ice cream.
“I’m so glad I rescued him,” Emma added.
Besides eating, Zach also enjoys sleeping in front of a campfire and taking photos.
Another of her favorite wishes is endless hugs.
Emma created a fund in Zach’s name to complete his wish list and help the neediest dogs.
Zach has become famous and those who get to know him are enchanted.
