Three years ago, amateur astronomers around the world watched as the usually bright light of Betelgeuse dimmed overnight and remained that way for several months. Now a group of astronomers have determined that Betelgeuse’s dimming was caused by a piece of the star’s atmosphere being ejected into space. “We’ve never before seen a huge mass ejection of…

A Group of researchers have made what may turn out to be the most significant discovery in HISTORY – how the cosmos came into being from nothing. The immense question has concerned religions, philosophers and researchers since the dawn of time but now a Canadian group of scientists consider that they have finally solved this…

Scientists have suggested that a dark matter “hurricane” might be making its way past the Sun, and it could be detectable here on Earth. Published in Physical Review D, the study led by Ciaran O’Hare from the University of Zaragoza in Spain looked at a collection of nearby stars moving in the same direction known…

Black holes are certainly one of the most incredible creations of the universe, perplexing scientists and our general understanding of how physics works. However, humans have come a long way in our understanding of black holes and the general way the universe functions, but now we are at the point where we have gathered enough…

While size does matter, it is not necessarily always a measure of aviation power.   However, this did not stop gifted engineers, who have, for decades now, been designing vehicles of such magnitude that their very ability to leave the ground was already impressive. Today we are going to take a look at 10 of…

SOMETHING’S ODD.  Galaxy group Stephan’s Quintet has been at the focus of a major redshift controversy for years. However, astronomers are certain the galaxy at the lower left is some 10 times closer to us than the others.NASA/ESA/Hubble SM4 ERO Team Some autumn night, hold a dime at arm’s length and block a tiny piece…

Earth’s closest neighbor has had its photo taken by NASA and the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Solar Orbiter Heliospheric Imager telescope. According to a new post on NASA’s website, NASA and ESA’s Solar Orbiter spacecraft flew past Venus 4,967 miles from the planet’s surface. During the days leading up to its approach, the Solar Orbiter snapped…

A team of astronomers from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and other institutes discovered a black hole located only 1,000 light years from Earth. The black hole is closer to our solar system than any other to date. This newfound dark neighbor is at least 4.2 times more massive than the sun and lives with…
