Not too many fans saw the Anthony Davis-Luka Doncic trade coming. Los Angeles Lakers supporters had a hunch that their team was up to something, and perhaps many of them sensed a big move right before the trade deadline.

However, the fact of the matter is that this blockbuster deal came out of nowhere.

So much so, that even Davis, who now plies his trade with the Dallas Mavericks, himself was left in shock when he first learned about the news. This is exactly why the first thing he did was call LeBron James to ask the prominent Lakers superstar if he knew anything about it.

“When it happened, I honestly didn’t know (expletive),” Davis said on Tuesday after the Lakers’ 107-99 win over the Mavs, via the Los Angeles Times. “He’s been my running mate for six years … so the first thing I wanted to do was call him. … Obviously, I know there are going to be a lot of political things in the front office when they talk to me.

“The front office has to do what it has to do and obviously they’re going to do what’s best for the organization. So I don’t know if I ever got the ‘real’ about any of it. I don’t know what’s true or what’s not, coming from upstairs.

“So, my thing is I’m gonna go to my counterpart who I’ve been running with and see what’s going on, get his reaction and that’s all it was. We had a conversation. That was it.”

Unfortunately, Davis did not go into detail as to what was said in his conversation LeBron. This appears to be something that will remain between the two former teammates.

Whatever the case might be, however, the reality is that the memorable LeBron-Davis era in L.A. has now come to an abrupt end.
