A waterbuck narrowly escaped being eaten alive three times, after being chased by a pack of wild dogs, sniffed out by a crocodile, and attacked by a hippo.
The antelope and its herd had been chased by a pack of ravenous wild dogs, before taking to a nearby waterhole for safety.
The dramatic moment an angry hippo attempts to bite the waterbuck intruding on its territory
However, the antelope was not alone, as a crocodile lurked beneath the waters, ready to attack.

The hippo, already agitated by the wild dog, charges at the antelope with jaws wide open
The hippo made several attempts to attack the animal, but the antelope was too agile
A submerged crocodile is barely visible in the centre-right of this picture. The croc kept its distance because of the hippo
The wild dogs eventually got bored, allowing the herd to escape
Daryl, 39, said “The hippo lurched and attacked the waterbuck calf with aggression and tried to bite it, probably because it was in their territory.
“A raft of hippopotamus had already been agitated by the playful and cheeky nature of the dogs, who had earlier taunted the hippos, and one individual clearly had enough.
“It made its intentions clear by storming the scene and causing a commotion, which scared off the crocodile and saw the dogs slam on their brakes.
“A standoff ensued for while with the waterbuck in the safety of the water, the wild dogs finally got bored and moved away into the woodland, allowing the waterbuck to escape.”
