Surely free animals have a happier life than those owned, but on the other hand, they are more exposed to dangers. Precisely because they have no one to take care of them and environmental disasters or attacks by predators are always around the corner.
An example is this young mare, who was running away from a field, in the company of her foal, in anticipation of a high tide. Unfortunately, during the escape, one of her limbs gets stuck in her mane and she falls to the ground, unable to get up again.
The mare gets stuck and the foal panics and calls for help
It happens in South Wales, in a beautiful marsh inhabited by many animal species, the Loughor estuary, in Gower. The animals that are most commonly encountered are horses.
This species usually lives in herds, called Harem, where there are several females with their foals and a single stallion. When they sense the arrival of a storm or any danger, the horses start running in search of a safe place to take shelter.
That day a high tide was coming, so many ran away. Among them was a mare with her foal, who unfortunately got her right hind leg caught in her thick mane while running and fell to the ground. The foal, when he saw his mother fall to the ground, panicked and started running around her and neighed, as if asking for help.
Luckily, shortly after, the RSPCA officers arrived, specifically to evacuate the animals still present in the area and found a beautiful white mare on the ground, with her baby next to her. An officer approached her and managed to free the animal, who was not afraid of the man, indeed, she had probably understood that he was trying to help her. The mare got up a minute later and walked away with her baby.
