“For the first few days, he would barely eat” 😔
Meet Max — a friendly black and white dog who recently found himself in a tough spot. Eight years ago, Max was adopted as a puppy. Unfortunately, earlier this month, due to unforeseen circumstances, Max’s family had to return him to the Pennsylvania SPCA.
Max had no idea what was going on. Lonely and missing his people, he became depressed.
“He cowered and shook in the corner of his kennel,” animal advocate Sarah Brown told The Dodo. “For the first few days, he would barely eat.”
Eager to find poor Max a new home, Brown recorded a video of him and posted it to TikTok.
“POV: the only family you’ve ever known returns you to the shelter after adopting you as a puppy 8 years ago,” Brown wrote in the video.

Soon, Max’s TikTok had millions of views. Heartbroken viewers rallied behind Max, sharing their support.
Eventually, the video reached a person who knew Max in his old life. The woman couldn’t stand to see the pup so sad. She knew what she had to do.
“She was eager to get him back to somewhere he felt safe,” Pennsylvania SPCA wrote in a Facebook post. “Somewhere he felt loved.”
As soon as the pair reconnected, it was clear to everyone that they were meant to be.
“It was a very emotional reunion!” Brown said. “We had only seen Max sad and frightened, but he immediately ran into her lap and turned into his old self.”
Safe and happy with his new mom, Max doesn’t have to worry about winding up at the shelter again.
“It’s so amazing to see him thriving,” Brown said. “We wish this life for all of our dogs!”
