Life for a pair of puppies and their mother changed completely after the nonprofit humane society, Animal Charity of Ohio, received a call informing them that a family of dogs urgently needed help.
The organization’s director of operations, Jane MacMurchy, went to the scene accompanied by a humanitarian agent. When they arrived, they found a devastating scene: a mother and her two puppies were living in the worst conditions that a furry animal can tolerate.
Fortunately, the owners did not hesitate to hand over the puppies named Peaches and Layla, who were about five months old. Next to them was their 7-year-old mother, Lady. The entire furry family was handed over to the rescuers and taken to the shelter.
At the veterinary clinic, the puppies were separated from their mother for a check-up. They felt so vulnerable without their mother present that Peaches and Layla embraced each other tenderly for comfort at the shelter.
This small family still has a long way to go before they adapt. Although they do not have any serious physical injuries, they are very sensitive emotionally, so they will need a long process of education and training. But above all, they will need to be helped to have confidence and not be so dependent on each other.
Thanks to the incredible work of her rescuers, Lady already feels confident about herself, loves meeting new people and going for walks. Her two puppies are still learning, their socialization process will take a little more time but we trust that they will succeed.
It’s only a matter of time before these siblings are ready to be adopted. The shelter staff hopes to find a family that will take them home together so they can continue to enjoy the hugs and love that their new parents offer them.
